Checking the status of our application
If it is the first time you apply for a residency visa in Chile, then you don’t have a RUN number (ID Card number) yet. Therefore, you will have to use your name to check the status of your application.
We head over to Extranjería's website
Click here to open a new window with Extranjería’s website.
Once on the website, we can check the status by name or by RUN number:
By name "Su Nombre" (Your Name)
We click on “Su Nombre”:
And on the next page we will have to fill the form with the following information:
Name(s) (mandatory); AND,
Surname 1 (mandatory); AND,
Surname 2 (optional); AND,
Date of birth [day] [month] [year] (mandatory); AND,
Country of birth (mandatory); AND,
Passport number or ID Card number (mandatory).
By RUN number (RUN chileno):
If we already have a RUN number (ID Card number), we click on “RUN chileno” (Chilean ID number):
And then enter our:
RUN number (Chilean ID number) (mandatory); AND,
Date of birth [day] [month] [year] (mandatory); AND,
Country of birth (mandatory); AND,
Passport number or ID Card (foreign) number (mandatory).
We verify that we are not a robot
In any case (by name or by RUN number), we will then have to verify that we are not a robot:
Finally we click on “Continuar” (Continue).
The result
If our application has been registered on Extranjería’s system, meaning that is now being reviewed by an analyst (“en trámite”), you will see something like the picture below:
Then, we will have to click on “Ver Trámite” in order to obtain a more detailed information about our application.
When we click on “Ver Trámite” we will see the identification details and document information. We will have to go to the end of the page and then click on “Ver Trámite” again.
Immediately afer, we click on “Ver Detalle”:
We will be able to read the last details about our application, and if there are documents available (letter and solicitud de visa en trámite or permanencia definitiva en trámite), we will be able to download them:
After we click on the document we want to download, we click on “Guardar” to save it:
What if we are unable to see our application?
Do we see the following message (“No se encontró el registro”)?:
Check that the details on the form are the same as the ones on your passport or id card.
Try using one name, both names, just one last name, both, etc. Sometimes the analyst may register your names or surname in a different order. Try with different variations.
If that did not work, it means that our application has not been registered on the system yet and we have to wait and check periodically until we see our application online. Sometimes, it can take more than 120 days (from the application date).
How to check if the application we submitted by certified mail was received?
If we applied for a visa by certified mail (carta certificada), we can check if the letter was received by Extranjería. For this, we will need the receipt issued by Correos de Chile the day we submitted our application.

Click on Código de correos
Enter the tracking code
Where do we find the tracking code?
Then we click on “Buscar” (Search). If it was received we will see the following message:
Are there other ways to check the status of our application?
Yes, there are:
Consulta de Estado de Beneficios Migratorios
We can see the progress of our application expressed in percentages by going to tramites.extranjeria.gob.cl and clicking on “Consulta de Estado de Beneficios Migratorios“:
Once there, we just need to enter our Passport number (if we applied for visa) or RUN number (if we applied for Permanent Residency), click on “Siguiente” and we will see the current status and the progress expressed in percentage (5% to 100%):
Historial de trámites
If we applied for Permanent Residency, or for the extension of a work visa (prórroga de visa sujeta a contrato), temporary visa (prórroga de visa temporaria) or student visa (prórroga de visa de estudiante) online, we will be able to check the status of the last application made, through tramites.extranjeria.gob.cl. Once there we just log in using our Clave Única and then click on “Historial de Trámites” (located on the side bar):
