PDI announced today, April 16, 2020, that in order to protect the health of its users and its personnel (due to the coronavirus outbreak), it has been decided to implement an automated registration system for the residency visas granted for the first time by the Immigration Department (Extranjería).

With this new system, foreigners that downloaded their e-Visas (Estampado Provisorio Electrónico) from tramites.extranjeria.gob.cl, won’t have to concur to the International Police offices in order to register them.

Instead, foreigners who activated their e-Visas, will now receive an e-mail with the Registration Certificate issued by PDI.

Lastly, and in a coordinated work with the Servicio de Registro Civil e Identificación (Civil Registry), foreigners whose first visa were registered under this new modality, will also receive an e-mail from the Civil Registry with the date in which they will have to concur to the corresponding Civil Registry office in order to apply for their ID Cards.
