Temporary visa for foreigners who hold a family tie with a foreigner with Permanent Residency in Chile
This visa is aimed to foreigners that hold a family tie (spouse, children and parents) with a Permanent Resident in Chile.
Table of Contents
Conditions of this visa
1) It allows to reside in Chile for up to a year.
2) It can be extended for another year within the last 90 days of the first visa.
3) If it is granted for 1 year, it allows to apply for Permanent Residency within the last 90 days of the visa.
4) It can be obtained as holder (TITULAR) or as dependent (DEPENDIENTE). Dependents: spouse, children and parents of the holder.
5) It allows to carry out any licit activity (working with one or more employers at the same time, freelancing, investing, studying, etc.) in Chile as long as it is granted as holder (TITULAR). Dependents are not allowed to work in Chile.
General documentation (must be presented by the holder and its dependents)
1) Copy of the following pages of the applicant’s passport:
- Identification pages including the passport number and issue and expiry dates; AND,
- Page in which the last entry (to Chile) was stamped; AND,
- If the applicant obtained a Consular Tourist Visa (Visto Consular de Turismo) through a Chilean Consulate abroad in order to enter Chile as a tourist: a copy of the page in which the Consular Tourist Visa was stamped.
If the applicant entered Chile with a different identification document, he / she must present a copy of that document as well: ID Card, DNI, etc.
If the application will be made through a Gobernación Provincial (outside the Metropolitan Region), the applicant MUST present 2 copies of each page; AND,
2) Copy of the last Tourism Card. If the applicant lost it, he / she can obtain a duplicate at the offices of PDI (International Police): list of PDI offices.
If the application will be made through a Gobernación Provincial (outside the Metropolitan Region), the applicant MUST present 2 copies of the Tourism Card and the original; AND,
3) A recent photograph, size 3×2 cm., in color, including full name and passport number.
If the application will be made through a Gobernación Provincial (outside the Metropolitan Region), the applicant MUST present 2 photographs; AND,
4) If the foreigner is a national of Colombia, Perú or the Dominican Repulic, he / she will have to present a Police Clearance Certificate (mandatory for adults):
- Colombia: “Certificado de Antecedentes Judiciales”.
- Perú: “Certificado Consular de Antecedentes Penales” obtained at the Peruvian Consulate in Chile.
- Dominican Republic: “Certificado de NO Antecedentes Penales” obtained at the Consulate of the Dominican Republic in Chile; AND,
5) If the foreigner’s domicile is within the Metropolitan Region or within the Gobernación Provincial of Antofagasta, he / she MUST fill and sign the application form, which must be submitted with the rest of the documentation:
- Application form for those within the Metropolitan Region.
- Application form for those within the Gobernación Provincial of Antofagasta.
Specific documentation for those applying for this temporary visa as holders (TITULARES)
Spouse of a Permanent Resident in Chile
- Marriage Certificate, issued in the country in which the marriage was celebrated. This document must be duly apostilled (if the country issuing the certificate is a member of the Apostille Agreement) or duly legalized by the Chilean Consulate of the country of origin and by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Chile (if the country issuing the certificate is not a member of the Apostille Agreement); AND,
- Copy of the Permanent Residency Certificate of the applicant’s spouse; AND,
- Copy from both sides of the applicant’s spouse ID Card (issued by the Servicio de Registro Civil e Identificación); AND,
- Permanent Residency Validity Certificate from the Permanent Resident, issued by PDI (International Police); AND,
- Proof of income.
Children of a Permanent Resident in Chile
- Birth Certificate of the applicant. This document must be duly apostilled (if the country issuing the certificate is a member of the Apostille Agreement) or duly legalized by the Chilean Consulate of the country of origin and by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Chile (if the country issuing the certificate is not a member of the Apostille Agreement); AND,
- Copy of the Permanent Residency Certificate of the applicant’s father or mother; AND,
- Copy from both sides of the applicant’s father or mother ID Card (issued by the Servicio de Registro Civil e Identificación); AND,
- Permanent Residency Validity Certificate from the Permanent Resident, issued by PDI (International Police); AND,
- Proof of income.
Parents of a Permanent Resident in Chile
- Birth Certificate from the holder of the Permanent Residency which indicates the name of the parents. This document must be duly apostilled (if the country issuing the certificate is a member of the Apostille Agreement) or duly legalized by the Chilean Consulate of the country of origin and by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Chile (if the country issuing the certificate is not a member of the Apostille Agreement); AND,
- Copy of the Permanent Residency Certificate of the applicant’s son or daughter; AND,
- Copy from both sides of the applicant’s son or daughter ID Card (issued by the Servicio de Registro Civil e Identificación); AND,
- Permanent Residency Validity Certificate from the Permanent Resident, issued by PDI (International Police); AND,
- Proof of income.
Specific documentation for those applying for this temporary visa as dependents (DEPENDIENTES)
Spouse
- Marriage Certificate: Original or a copy of the Certificate legalized before a Notary Public; AND,
- Affidavit of expenses signed before a Notary Public, in which the holder assumes the cost of maintan their dependents in Chile (original) AND,
- When the holder’s visa is a “Visa Sujeta a Contrato”: The applicant must present a Validity Certificate of the employment contract (Certificado de Vigencia del Contrato) issued by employer of the applicant’s spouse and legalized before a Notary Public; OR,
- When the holder’s visa is a “Visa de Residencia Temporaria” or “Visa de Estudiante”, the applicant must present proof of income.
Daughter / Son
- Birth Certificate which indicates the name of the parents (original or a copy of the certificate legalized before a Notary Public); AND,
- Affidavit of expenses signed before a Notary Public, in which the holder assumes the cost of maintan their dependents in Chile (original); AND,
- When the holder’s visa is a “Visa Sujeta a Contrato”: The applicant must present a Validity Certificate of the employment contract (Certificado de Vigencia del Contrato) issued by employer of the applicant’s spouse and legalized before a Notary Public; OR,

Mother / Father
- Birth Certificate of the visa holder (TITULAR) which indicates the name of the parents (original or a copy of the certificate legalized before a Notary Public); AND,
- Affidavit of expenses signed before a Notary Public, in which the holder assumes the cost of maintan their dependents in Chile (original); AND,
- When the holder’s visa is a “Visa Sujeta a Contrato”: The applicant must present a Validity Certificate of the employment contract (Certificado de Vigencia del Contrato) issued by employer of the applicant’s spouse and legalized before a Notary Public; OR,

About the documentation
- The documentation required to prove family ties between a holder and its dependents must be duly apostilled or duly legalized.
- If there is documentation issued outside Chile, it has to be duly apostilled or duly legalized as well as translated and legalized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- If the document is written in English, French, Italian or Portuguese, no translation is required.
