How to extend the validity of your “Solicitud de permanencia definitiva en trámite” Certificate
In most cases (always), the Certificate stating that your Permanent Residency application is being processed (“Solicitud de Permanencia Definitiva en trámite”) will expire before Extranjería makes a decision. The Certificate has a validity of 6 months. But don’t worry, if it expires before you hear from Extranjería, you can extend it for another 6 months online using your Clave Única.
What is the "Solicitud de Permanencia Definitiva en trámite" Certificate for?
It proves:
Our legal residence in Chile while our application is being processed (“en trámite”); AND,
That we are allowed to keep working under the same conditions of our previous visa according to Article 135 Bis of theImmigration Regulation; AND,
That we are allowed to exit the country and re enter without troubles.
Once there, we click on “Iniciar trámite con Clave Única” just below the process called “Ampliación de Permanencia Definitiva en Trámite“:
Then, we log in using our Clave Única:
And that’s it. If our “Solicitud de Permanencia Definitiva en trámite” Certificate expired, we should now be able to download a Certificate named “Ampliación de Solicitud de Permanencia Definitiva en Trámite” which will extend the validity of the “Solicitud de Permanencia Definitiva en trámite” Certificate for another 6 months (we will receive a copy of it on our email as well):
What if we are unable to extend it?
It may be because:
Our application has not advanced to the analysis stage yet. Once it does, we will be able to extend the Certificate; OR,
Our Permanent Residency has been approved, so we cannot extend the Certificate; OR,
Our “Solicitud de Permanencia Definitiva en trámite” Certificate is still valid (it has not expired yet).
If none of the above, we suggest to contact Extranjería through SIAC or Freshdesk asking for the “Ampliación de Permanencia Definitiva en trámite” Certificate.
