How to book your appointment for PDI in Chile – Step by step
You will have to book an appointment for PDI (International Police) if you live within the Metropolitan Region and need to:
- a) Register your visa (“Registro de Visa”): You have 30 days to register your visa once you stamp it or download it (if it is a 6 month e-visa starting from March 23, 2020) ; OR,
- b) Register your Permanent Residency Certificate (“Registro de Certificado de Permanencia Definitiva”): You have 30 days to register your Permanent Residency Certificate once you download it from tramites.extranjeria.gob.cl; OR,
- c) Obtain a duplicate of your visa registration if you lost it (“Duplicado de Registro de Visa”): You can also obtain a duplicate at the office of PID in the International Airport; OR,
- d) Obtain the Validity Certificate of your Permanent Resident Visa (“Certificado de vigencia de la Permanencia Definitiva”).
If you need to obtain a Duplicate of your Tourism Card because you lost it, or if you need to update your address, you don’t need an appointment. You just need to head over to the closest International Police branch and do it.
In order to book an appointment within the Metropolitan Region, you will first need to have an account on reservahorapdi.extranjeria.gob.cl. If you already have an account skip to “How to book an appointment for PDI” below. If you don’t have one, keep reading.
What about the rest of country? (we know, Santiago is not Chile)
The system – on its first stage – was implemented ONLY for those living within the Metropolitan Region. It will be implemented – gradually – throughout the country. But, until that doesn’t happen:
- If you don’t see the process you are looking for – for your Region (outside the Metropolitan Region) you will head over to your closest International Police (PDI) office in person and find out about the type of attention, if you need to get an appointment in person, by phone, or if you get an attention number for that same day.

How to book an appointment for PDI
Go to reservahorapdi.extranjeria.gob.cl and click on “INGRESO“.
Note: If it is the first time you log in, you must use the temporary password sent to your email when you created your account and then change it for one of your choice.
Select your Region
The first thing you want to do, is to click on the button named “TRÁMITES ASOCIADOS A” (Processes associated to) located on the top right corner of your screen and select the Region in which you are currently living:
Select the process
Then click on “Seleccione su trámite” (“select your process”) right below “Reserva de horas”:
- a) Permanent Residency registration (“Registro de Permanencia Definitiva“);
- b) Travel Certificate (“Certificado de viajes y registro de visa para postular a la Permanencia Definitiva”) (IS NOT required to apply for Permanent Residency since Janruay 24, 2020);
- c) Visa registration (“Registro de visa“);
- d) Certificate of validity (Permanent Residency) [“Certificado de vigencia Permanencia Definitiva”];
- e) Duplicate of visa registration (“Duplicado de registro de visa”);
After you select the process, you will in the yellow box, what are the documents you will have to present the day of the appointment (and the cost):
Choose the day and hour
If there are slots available you will be able to see a calendar like the one below. Click on the time slot, colored in green, that suits you the best:
Save and print the receipt
If you found a free time slot and were able to confirm the appointment, you will be directed to a new tab in which you will find the receipt:
We strongly suggest you to click on “Imprimir” and save a copy of this receipt as a PDF file or to print it right away. We know about cases where the receipt is never delivered by email.
Remember that you need to present the receipt at the door the day of the appointment.
What if you don’t find any slots available?
You must register on the waiting list (“ASIGNACIÓN AUTOMATIZADA DE CITAS”).
Once registered, you just have to wait for the email from PDI with the confirmation and appointment date (day and hour).
However, we suggest you to check your PDI account at least once every 2-3 days, since there are cases where people never received the email or it goes directly to Spam and are never notified.
If you never received the confirmation email, go to your PDI account and take a screenshot of the date of the appointment, print it, and take it with you the day of the appointment.
You can get out of the waiting list if you choose to, by clicking on “Eliminarme de Asignación Automatizada de Chile“ (get out of the waiting list):
We don’t advise you to do it. Why? Because:
- If you get out the waiting list and you register again after the deadline expired: you will be fined.
If you registered on the waiting list within the deadline (30 days after your stamped your visa or downloaded your Permanent Residency Certificate), you just need to keep waiting until it is confirmed.
PDI and the Immigration Department take into account the date in which you registered on the waiting list. No matter if the appointment was scheduled after the deadline has expired.
The day of the appointment
The day of the appointment you will have to present your receipt at the door and carry your passport and money (in cash). You can check the documentation you need to take with you that day on the appointment receipt.
Be there 5 minutes earlier at max.
The access to the offices are made by blocks, meaning that if you have an appointment for 09:00 am, you and all the people that have an appointment between 09:00 and 10:00 am. will enter to the office starting from 08:55 am.
You won’t be attended without an appointment.
Technical problems
What if you already had an account created but you cannot access to your account nor retrieve your password?
A: Create a new account, using another email address (hopefully a gmail account).
What if you want to register but the system does not allow it because you have just one surname or your surname is a compound surname. What should you do?
A: Repeat your first surname. Compound surnames must be written without spaces, dashes or accents.
Can you carry out your immigration procedures at any Immigration and International Police Department in the country or only at the one in the city where you live?
A: You can carry out your immigration procedures at any Department or Section of Immigration and International Police (PDI) of the country. The important thing is to find out about the type of attention on each one of them (appointment system – in person or by phone – order of arrival, etc.).
- Find all the offices of PDI throughout the country here.
If you are having other technical problems (registeration, passwords, e-mails, captcha, etc), we suggest you to contact PDI directly:

Regarding people selling/buying appointments
Because all the troubles experienced, some people have decided to buy appointments to third parties.
PDI has already warned that people buying appointments to third parties run the risk of not being attended and losing their money.
